Tuesday

Objective: Students will review idioms. Students will read the newspaper and summarize articles. Students will research the meaning of Memorial Day. Students will write their own poem or paragraph describing their individual weekends.

Do this: Why do we have Memorial Day off from school? Research this holiday and explain why we celebrate it. Use one of the new websites that Mr. Smith showed us - altavista or dogpile. Write 2 to 3 sentences in your blog about why we celebrate this holiday.

Do this: What did you do over your long vacation? Write a poem or short paragraph on what you did over the weekend.

Do this: When was the last time you read the newspaper? Have you been reading it outside of class? Go to the website for The Buffalo News (http://www.buffalonews.com/). Find 2 articles that interest you and read them. Summarize the articles in 3 to 4 sentences on your blog. Post a link to the newspaper in your blog.

Do this: Idioms are phrases of speech, where the words don't mean exactly what they say. Examples of idioms include: "Raining cats and dogs" and "Harder than finding a needle in a haystack". Find 5 idioms and post them in your blog. Post the idiom and the definition. Use a search engine - altavista, google, dogpile - to find them.
